Homework Policy
Definition

Homework is defined as a school-related assignment by a teacher, which will require time and effort outside of the regular classroom for successful completion.

Philosophy

The Governing Board acknowledges the importance of developing and implementing homework policies and guidelines that will maximize the effectiveness of homework as a strategy for improving student success.

It should create a closer bond between the school and the home that can be used as a means of acquainting parents with the types of work going on in the classroom.

Homework should broaden experiences motivated in the classroom, extend knowledge, stimulate new interests, and develop self-direction, initiative, independent thinking, perseverance, and good work habits.

The overall effectiveness of homework is dependent on many variables including the purpose, the quantity of homework assigned, and the grade level of the student. Additionally, the role played by teachers, students, and parents in the design, completion, and evaluation of homework contributed to its effectiveness.

Purpose

The following will be taken into consideration when developing the individual site homework policies:

  • Homework has different purposes at different grade levels
  • Homework for students should include one or more of the following:
    • Positive attitudes
    • Work habits
    • Expand knowledge
Guidelines for Quantity of Homework
